Overview

Pyramid is seeking a talented Mainframe/COBOL Programmer  who analyzes requirements, conceives solutions, develops software, creates and executes test scripts, and debugs finished products in order to meet the operational needs of the company.

 

Receives feedback from users—both internal and external—and investigates and repairs bugs and functional shortcomings as they are encountered or in response to changing needs. Incorporates the necessary documentation into each solution so that others can effectively modify the software, and actively participates in the exchange of ideas and learning that enable the company to keep pace with changing technology.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes system or individual functional needs, itemizes requirements, determines the potential impact on other systems or functions, and conceives software solutions and/or processes to meet those needs. (ANALYSIS)
  • Solid understanding of development, debugging and System Integration Testing techniques and using all necessary tools not limited to COBOL, DB2, IMS, CICS, JCL, VSAM, TSO/ISPF, REXX, and CA-ENDEVOR on z/OS Platform (DEVELOPMENT)
  • Strong understanding of the development, Unit, System, and Integration testing and assisting on deployment of application software and adheres to quality standards. Experience with Agile process is a plus. (SDLC PROCESS)
  • Continually assesses changing needs and user requests against existing software and makes the necessary resource changes and enhancements and tests the modifications for effectiveness and efficiency so that the company’s software assets continue to function optimally. (MAINTENANCE)
  • Team player and self-starter, actively participates in discussions with the IT Operations and the Customer Service Teams to resolve any outstanding requests or issues, supports system users, evaluating potential bugs, answering questions, and provide world-class customer support to our clients. Required to support production activities after hours and on occasional weekends (On-Call and/or during system upgrade testing) (CLIENT SUPPORT)
  • Strives to write self-documenting code that follows established standards, is named, and stored as per contractual requirements, and, when necessary, is accompanied by appropriate documentation so that other developers will be able to comprehend and modify it efficiently. (DOCUMENTATION)
  • Functions as a life-long learner and helps to promote the sharing of new ideas and new technology within the department. Experience with Shell Script, JAVA (Spring Boot framework), and Cloud Computing (using Gitlab, Jenkins, Nessus) is a plus. (LEARNING)
  • Provides estimates and helps set deliverable deadlines and manages to them.
  • Responds to incident tickets directly or as assigned as part of a production support responsibility.
  • Provides timely and accurate status reports, including time reporting and adherence to level of effort (LOE) estimations, to IT management on the status of existing projects and outstanding project requests.
  • Develops and executes accurate and concise unit and integration test scripts.
  • Ability to adjust, manage and prioritize multiple tasks per client’s needs at any given time.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience Mainframe Development.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science.
